What is NLP?
NLP was developed in the 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, who studied leading experts in communication, behaviour, psychology, and therapy. They identified key patterns and techniques used by highly successful individuals, and from this research, NLP was created as a set of tools and strategies that anyone can use to make meaningful change.
At its core, NLP is about understanding how your internal experience—your thoughts, language, emotions, and behaviours—shapes your reality and your results. It provides tools to help you look beyond your conscious thoughts and uncover the deeper beliefs and patterns that drive how you respond to everyday life.
The NLP model:
Neuro – how we interpret and filter the world through our senses and nervous system
Linguistic – how we use language (internally and externally) to express and shape our experience
Programming – how our beliefs, values, and motivators influence our habits, responses, and outcomes
By increasing your awareness of these internal processes, you gain the clarity and tools needed to shift limiting beliefs, reframe challenges, and take intentional action toward your goals.
